Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle form of Osteopathy that looks at the body as a whole and recognises the inter-related nature of all the systems within the body. Cranial Osteopaths do not just treat your head! Osteopathic philosophy stems from the concept that as humans we function as a whole – as a unit of body, mind and spirit where structure and function are interrelated. Furthermore, within each person there is an inbuilt capacity for self-healing and self-regulation. While our bodies are inherently healthy sometimes injury or illness disrupts our natural state of health resulting in imbalance, pain or discomfort. Osteopathic treatments aim to restore your body’s natural state of health by re-aligning and re-balancing your body as a whole.
What can Cranial osteopathy help with?
Cranial Osteopaths can help with general musculoskeletal aches and pains, sporting injuries, chronic pain, nervous system, cardiopulmonary and digestive disorders. They work with people of all ages and backgrounds to help restore normal function to the body.
Your osteopath will ask you questions and assess your area of complaint in order to form a diagnosis and determine the best treatment plan for you. We look for the cause of your problem and use gentle techniques to re-establish your body’s natural balance.
What does it feel like?
Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle technique that does not involve any forceful manipulation. Light pressure is applied to different areas of the body to release strain or tension. Some people are aware of different sensations during treatment while other people are unaware of anything happening at all. You may experience sensitivity, mild aching, or warmth and relaxation. You may notice a difference in your body immediately after treatment, or it may take a few days for these subtle changes to emerge.
